Despite recent high-profile campaigns against childhood obesity and similar ills, a survey of Australian mothers found 36.1 per cent still thought their children were not active enough.
The National Nestle Voice of Aussie Mums survey, which interviewed 16,579 women, found that 39.21 per cent believed they had been more active as kids than their children were today.
Nearly 32 per cent of mums did not consider themselves active.
"It was interesting to note that 39.21 per cent of mums believe that they were more active at the same age than their kids and undertook greater levels of activity," Nestle ambassador and former Australian netball captain Liz Ellis said.
"A huge 77.1 per cent of mums say they are proactively getting their families physically active on weekends."
The most popular weekend activity was swimming, with 44.3 per cent of families taking to the water.
Cleaning the house came in at number two, with 40.27 per cent of mothers saying it was a major activity for their families.
Walking the dog, bike riding and washing the car were also popular.
"It seems the weekend is the primary time to get kids active because homework and sedentary activities, such as watching TV and computer games, are taking priority during the week," Ms Ellis said in a statement.
The Nestle survey found 39.52 per cent of mums drove their children to school, while just over 20 per cent let the kids ride or walk.
