- Check availability of equipment, facilities and programs.

- Insist all conditions and services are put in writing.

- Avoid paying large amounts up-front or committing to long-term contracts.

- Monthly payments are a safer arrangement in case the business ceases.

- Make sure your contract clearly states a final date for your direct debit.

- Cancel gym memberships in writing.
